Observations
During the fall semester you will begin the public school year with a full week
observation, then spend one full day per week visiting a classroom in a local
public school. Through this experience, you will further develop your understandings
about crafting pedagogy and curriculum to meet the needs and potentials of all
students; about the social, cultural and intellectual experiences of students;
and about the intellectual, social, and political dimensions of teaching and
schooling. You will be paired with a specific teacher and his or her class(es).
You will have a chance to get to know both the teacher and the students and
occasionally help out, usually working with small groups or one-on-one with
certain students. Your professors may also give you specific observation or
lesson assignments connected with your regular teacher/classes.
You will be responsible for teaching two classes during the school
day. Your internship will require you to spend two-thirds of the day at school.
During the time you are not teaching, you will be observing other teachers teach.
Through this experience, you will further develop your understandings about
crafting pedagogy and curriculum to meet the needs and potentials of all students;
about the social, cultural and intellectural experiences of students; and about
the intellectural, social and political dimensions of teaching and schooling.
You will be paired with a specific teacher and his or her class(es) with whom
you will collaborate. Your professors may also give you specific observations
or lesson assignments connected with your regular teacher/classes. The locations
will be in Montgomery County Public Schools.
