The University of Maryland Writing Project (UMdWP) is part of the National Writing Project (NWP). We are a
lively group of teachers, professors, and administrators deeply involved in the development of writing and literacy. We consider literacy across the curriculum in all disciplines and for all learners. We are interested in 21st Century literacies and technologies.

Session 1: Local Strategy for LENS (1 cr)

Featuring Elyse Eidman-Aadahl, National Writing Project & other NWP consultants.
Enrollment limited to Teacher Consultants with the UMdWPSession 2: National Strategy for LENS (1 cr)
Mar 25 &/or 26 & wimba (on-line) sessions as arranged
Location: Washington DC for the Spring Meeting of the NWP
Enrollment limited to Teacher Consultants with the UMdWP. Participation involves planning for and meeting with legislative aides for US Congressional Senators and Representatives from Maryland in UMdWP region. Participants also attend NWP briefings and other sessions.Session 3: Refining the Teacher Inquiry Workshop for LENS (1 cr)

Enrollment limited to Teacher Consultants with the UMdWP who have developed TIWs and are refining them for professional development presentations. In collaboration with UMCP’s PDS networks, the workshops will be refined and presented for the College of Education’s professional development schools as selected by PDS coordinators under the guidance of UMdWP TCs Leslie Gettier and Kathleen Travers.Session 4: Coaching the Teacher Inquiry Workshop for LENS (1 cr)

Enrollment limited to Teacher Consultants with the UMdWP who are coaching TIWs for professional development presentations. This session will coordinate closely with Session 3 so that the workshop leaders have coaching and feedback for their PDS work.Session 5: Digital technology and the Teacher Inquiry Workshop for LENS (1 cr)
Mar 27 &/or 28 & wimba (on-line) sessions as arranged.
Featuring consultant/s from NWP who are attending the NWP Spring Meeting. Participants will extend the work done in the Open Institutes 2009. Attention will be to study and adapt our technology presence in line with the NWP technology network.Session 6: Participating in Teacher Inquiry Workshop for LENS (1 cr)

Enrollment open to teachers interested in professional development. Teacher Inquiry Workshops will be conducted in collaboration with UMCP’s PDS networks and other arrangements with UMdWP Partnerships. (See also Session 3 & 4 for related information.)
