Certificate in Measurement, Statistics and Evaluation

The certificate in EDMS is designed to provide advanced training in quantitative methods for graduate students majoring in other programs. The certificate in EDMS requires a minimum of 24 graduate credit hours. In addition, an advisor must be selected from members of the EDMS faculty.

NOTE: To enroll in this Certificate program you must currently be a doctoral student in a University of Maryland department other than EDMS.

The certificate comprises a 15 credit hour core: EDMS 645, 646, 651, 623, and 771. The remaining 9 credit hours are determined in collaboration with the student's EDMS advisor. The additional courses supplement the core courses and the specific research interests of the student. Additional courses can include any EDMS offerings with the exception of EDMS 451. Students entering the program may, with permission of the EDMS advisor, substitute up to 9 credits of equivalent, prior course work. Also with permission of the advisor, one relevant non-EDMS course may be applied toward the certificate, provided no comparable course exists in EDMS.

Students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5 in courses taken for the Certificate. Also, Students must complete each course in the certificate with a grade of B or better. If a lower grade is obtained in a given course, then the course in question must be repeated until this grade requirement is achieved or not counted in the certificate and another course substituted.

NOTE: The University does not officially recognize minors at the graduate level and the certificate in EDMS provides an option to demonstrate strength in our area.
