Combined BS/MEd Program Application
Process
Step 1: University
Admissions Undergraduate Application
Students applying to the University, either as freshmen or transfers,
are initially classified as "Pre-Professional Special Education"
majors --a holding status for students who are working toward meeting
our admission requirements.

Before beginning professional coursework (Fall
of the Junior year), students must be admitted to the College of Education
and Department of Special Education. The admission process is described
in detail during the Introduction to Special Education course, EDSP 210.
All program applicants must fulfill the College of Education
admission requirements:

Passing scores on the Praxis I (Reading
177,Writing 173, Mathematics 177, or composite 527) |
| You can obtain information on the Praxis
in Room 1235 of the Benjamin Building or in the Career Center (3rd
floor Hornbake). . |

Completion of 45 credit hours with a minimum 2.5 grade
point average (Note: If you are a transfer student, please contact
our program coordinator for more information before applying to the
department.) |

Completion of the freshman-level university fundamental
studies requirements in Math and English with a C or better |
Requirements that are specific to the Department of Special
Education include:

Satisfactory completion of prerequisite coursework,
including STAT 100, PSYC 100, SOCY 100 or 105, Lab Science, US History,
English Literature, HESP 202 |

Completion of EDSP 210 with a grade of C or better |
 |
Written profession goal statement |
 |
Volunteer and/or work experience with persons with disabilities |

Professional references |

Three Letters of recommendation |
Applications are reviewed by a department committee at the end of the
fall and spring semesters and at the conclusion of the summer sessions.
Admission decisions are usually made shortly after semester (or summer
session) grades are available. Students then receive written notification
of the Admission Committee's recommendation.

Toward the end of the junior year, students in the Combined Program must
apply to the University of Maryland Graduate school in order to earn the
Master's degree. Please view the MEd
