What is ELMS (also known as Blackboard)?
(From the OIT Helpdesk: http://helpdesk.umd.edu/documents/3/3448/)
ELMS (Enterprise Learning Management System) is a web-based course management tool that offers an integrated online course environment. This site provides a place not only for static course content (e.g., syllabi, schedules, announcements, and lecture notes), but access to interactive tools (e.g., discussion groups, live chats, and online assessments). ELMS is a tool that facilitates the creation of sophisticated World Wide Web-based educational environments. It can be used to create entire on-line courses, or to simply publish materials that supplement existing courses.
Use your UM Directory ID and password to login to the ELMS system.

College of Education's faculty-based ELMS User Group
The purpose of the ELMS User Group provided by Educational Technology Services is to:
- bring together faculty that currently use or plan to use the Enterprise Learning Management System offered through OIT (currently BlackBoard), and
- to serve as a mechanism for distributing information, both to and from OIT, regarding the current implementation.
Periodic (brown-bag style) meetings would be organized, allowing users to provide feedback that would guide OIT on what is important to our college faculty. The gatherings can also be used as a venue for in-house demonstrations and training by OIT on new, underutilized or upcoming software features.
Group emails will be used to coordinate meetings and to share information. To be added to the group, or for further information, please send an email to Web Services at coe-web-services@umd.edu.
