With the start of the fall 2004 semester, we are nearing the end of a
major improvement to college classroom infused technology. All standard
classrooms in the Benjamin building are in the process of being upgraded
with presentation technology. This includes:
- an integrated PC,
- independent CD/DVD and VCR playback,
- ports for external connection (laptops or other AV), and
- a ceiling mounted projector.
The integrated PC will also serve as the control device for routing sources for projection.
In addition, there will be a classroom technology support structure in place to assist faculty in the hands-on use of this equipment. Faculty will be contacted to arrange for classroom technology training prior to using that equipment.
While this upgrade is in progress, we recommend that unless your classroom is listed as complete on the Classroom Status page, you make arrangements for borrowing equipment through the standard procedure, at least through early October. While it is anticipated that all classrooms will be completed by the end of September, it is far easier to later cancel an unneeded reservation than it is to make a new one.
In addition, the building has gone wireless! All classrooms (and most offices) in Benjamin now have wireless internet access. Each will retain wired network access, as well, offering multiple options in each classroom.
To make an equipment reservation by phone, contact the circulation desk.
To get your laptop configured for wireless access, you can either do it yourself, referencing OIT resources, or you can request a ticket for desktop support.
For other questions regarding classroom technology, please contact the intructional technology coordinator.
