Goals and Objectives

Since 1987 the Office of School/University Cooperative Programs has worked to initiate, implement, and facilitate campus-wide school/university partnerships:

  • enhance communication and dissemination of information between the institution and the schools;
  • assist in establishing linkages between school and university faculty to develop partnership programs and collaborative proposal writing;
  • facilitate the broad involvement of UMCP's colleges and support services in collaborative initiatives with the schools;
  • provide ongoing support for campus-school partnership activities;
  • develop and share information about innovative school/university partnerships;
  • disseminate information regarding grants and funding sources for school/university partnerships.

Working with all of the University's academic colleges and support services, our office, in collaboration with K-12 schools, endeavors to:

  • stimulate important research projects for both school/university faculty, and provide experiential learning opportunities for university students;
  • provide programs to ensure that future university students have the academic skills and knowledge to be successful;
  • increase professional development opportunities for K-12 administrators and faculty;
  • provide intervention programs for at-risk students;
  • facilitate advanced courses for high school students;
  • facilitate university-student mentoring and tutoring with K-12 students; and
  • provide opportunities to enhance curricula with emphasis upon the teaching and learning of all academic disciplines.
