Four one-week day camps for children 6-12. The camp runs from 9am to 3pm, with after-care available from 3-5pm. Each week, campers will participate in three specialty periods designed to provide focused learning in a specialized field through instruction by an active professional. Offerings include pottery, drawing, and painting.

Both day and overnight camp programs throughout Maryland. Camps specialize in a variety of topics including: Leadership Development, Adventure, Teens, Natural Resources Education, Arts and Family Camps. Each camp program emphasizes respect for others and wildlife and provides a supportive setting for learning cognitive and essential life skills, including communication and getting along with others. All programs are accredited by the American Camping Association (ACA).

4-H conducts innovative programs for suburban, rural, and urban youth. Youth participate at their own pace in self-selected, “hands-on” learning activities and projects on a variety of topics including: nutrition, small pets, workforce preparation, clothing, citizenship, computers, public speaking, livestock, gardening, bicycles, entomology, and more. In working with other youth and adults, youth develop essential life skills, including creative thinking and decision-making as well as make new friends.

Camp theme: Prevention Health Rocks. Purpose: To help teens develop life siklls that serve them for life. Some skills, such as communicating with others, relating to change, and dealing with stress, help youth as they seek to develop the internal strength to resist risk behaviors. Swimming, hiking , service learning hours, (Senior citizens day at camp), camp dance, leadership and drama and more.

Shakespeare Camp offers middle- and high-school students a chance to express themselves through performance. Students explore stage combat, clowning, dance, and acting.

Summer Youth Music Camp

A day camp for band, orchestra, and vocal musicians entering grades 6-9. Camp features instruction from University faculty and outstanding K-12 teachers. Students experience large ensemble rehearsals in band, orchestra or choir; small group lessons; participation in three elective music classes including jazz, composition, technology and more; performances by university faculty and professional musicians; and a culminating performance in the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center.


Dates: Week 1: Band Camp: July 19-24, 2009; Vocal/String Camp: July 26-31, 2009. Registration will be open beginning Feb. 1, 2009 on website above.


Children and youth: Entering grades 6-10


Fees: The cost for the camp is $275, which includes a camp tee-shirt, a CD recording of the final concert and dinner prior to the concert on Friday. By May 1, 2009 applications should be completed and mailed with the complete fee, of which $100 is non refundable, to: Summer Youth Music Camp

Program designed to foster growth and personal development in young teen campers, introducing them to new activities and experiences with a "hands-on" approach to learning. Experienced challenge course and summer camp staff will take them on an adventure every day. Activities include adventure games, overnight camping at the UMD Challenge Course, hight and low ropes challenges, kayaking, rock climbing & relaying, swimming.
