Welcome College of Education Students!

We are so excited to welcome you to the 2020-2021 academic year at the University of Maryland, College Park. Whether you are physically on campus or joining classes virtually, we know that your presence is a meaningful contribution to our close-knit COE community.

In the hopes of continuing to foster that sense of community when we are physically separated, the COE Student Ambassadors are working hard to create opportunities where students can engage with their peers in the College. To achieve this goal, we will 1) connect with undergraduate students through weekly emails entitled “Teachers N’ Terps;” 2) hold office hours to assist with any questions about the College of Education and student life; 3) and organize virtual events for education majors to connect!

Our first event of the year will be our Virtual Welcome Fair on Wednesday, August 26th from 3-5pm. We hope you will join us! Check out our event page for more information and resources. When we host other events in the future, you will be sure to hear from us!

Throughout the year, please contact us with questions, ideas, and feedback! You can email educambassadors@umd.edu to quickly connect with a Student Ambassador and receive guidance from a peer during these uncertain times.

Best Wishes,

COE Senior Student Ambassadors

Our Undergraduate Student Ambassadors are the face of our College to prospective students and their families, new incoming students and current UMD students. The College of Education Student Ambassador Program is run through the Office of Student Services and is a yearlong leadership internship offering undergraduate students the opportunity to become student leaders within the College and University. During the first semester, students will participate in a 2-credit course designed to establish leadership skills, train Ambassadors on the College’s undergraduate programs and policies, and prepare students to  participate actively and knowledgeably at recruitment events, such as the annual Fall Open House, Admitted Student Open Houses and the First Look Fair, College of Education Orientation and paraprofessional activities within the College.

In the Spring semester, students will participate in a 2-credit course designed to reinforce skills, concepts and practice gained in the first semester through active involvement in Open Houses, Workshops, Recruitment Events, Office Hours, the COE Newsletter and capstone projects.

The College of Education Student Ambassador Program is an invitation-only program. The application opens in the Spring semester and students need at least a 3.0 GPA and 45 credit hours.

Check back in the Spring 2021 for more information on how to apply to be a Student Ambassdor for the 2021-2022 Academic Year!

Our Welcome Fair is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26th from 3-5pm. We will welcome incoming undergraduate and graduate students to the College of Education by hosting student panels and breakout sessions via Zoom. Separate graduate and undergraduate student panels will provide incoming students with an opportunity to ask current students questions, while breakout sessions will provide an informal opportunity to connect incoming students with current students and faculty members across departments and cohorts. Prior to the event, attendees will have access to a welcome video from Dean Jennifer King Rice and Department Chairs Dr. William Ming Liu, Dr. Francine Hultgren, and Dr. Kelly Mix, as well as an online repository of college-based and campus-wide student resources.
