Funding & Scholarships

General COE Scholarship Application

Through the generosity of alumni and friends, the College of Education (COE) offers merit-based scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in our academic programs.

Each COE student applicant must provide the following for scholarship consideration:

  • Completed scholarship application
  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or faculty member submitted to educ-scholarships@umd.edu
    • Letter must be in PDF format with the applicant's name appearing in the subject line (ex. Doe, Jane Marie_LOR_LastNameOfRecommendor).
    • Letters should include the following applicant criteria:
      • Academic performance
      • Financial need
      • Leadership and contributions to the field of Education
      • Commitment to promoting a diverse multicultural community

Current COE Students

Incoming COE Students

  • Undergraduate and graduate students who are currently enrolled in the COE for courses for the Spring 2024 semester may apply for an Academic Year 2024-2025 scholarship via our online application.
  • All materials (including the letter of recommendation) must be submitted by Friday, May 3, 2024, at 4:30pm.
  • Incoming undergraduate and graduate students (including transfers) who will register for courses by the start of the Fall 2024 semester may apply for an Academic Year 2024-2025 scholarship vis our online application starting on Friday, May 24, 2024. Link coming soon.
  • All materials (including the letter of recommendation) must be submitted by Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at 12pm.

Incomplete scholarship applications will not be reviewed.

If selected, scholarship recipients must:

  • Accept scholarship by submitting an online submission form.
  • Write a thank you letter to scholarship donor.
