The M.A. in English Literacy Education in the Division of Language, Literacy, and Social Inquiry (LLSI) at Maryland provides highly qualified students with Bachelor’s degrees who are considering proceeding to the Ph.D. with inter-disciplinary program options grounded in the best research, theory, and practice available in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership and other departments in the College of Education.   

The M.A. in English Literacy Education in LLSI has three areas of emphasis: 
1.) Adolescent, Post-Secondary, and Community Literacies
2.) Language, Education, and Society
3.) Literature for Children and Young Adults

Applicants who wish to apply to the Master of Arts (MA) with specialization in English Literacy Education-Thesis option should select Curriculum and Instruction (EDCI) as their “Intended Program of Study.”
