IECMHSS Evaluation Project

CECEI is seeking child care centers from Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County, or Frederick County to participate in a study of Maryland's program to nurture children's social and emotional well-being.

Child care centers will receive, either during or following the study:

  • Classroom Based Specialist support in your classroom
  • Consultation related to specific child behaviors and concerns
  • The center director will receive a total of $200 in compensation for participating in the evaluation.
  • The classroom teacher will receive a total of $300 in compensation for participating in the evaluation.

Eligibility:

In order to participate in the evaluation, child care centers MUST:

  • Be a licensed, center-based child care provider in the state of Maryland 
  • Serve children ages 3-5 years old
  • Have NOT received consultation or coaching services from PERKS, Early Intervention Project at Family Tree, Project WIN, CHAMPS, or Project Act since 2020 
  • Remain operational until August 2024, providing a minimum of 6 hours of service per day 
  • Be willing to receive IECMHSS consultation AND wait up to 3 months for services
  • Be located in: Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Prince George’s County, Anne Arundel County, or Frederick County

What Participation Means for your Center:

Participating in this evaluation will involve a researcher observing the classroom two times over a three month period. Teachers receiving services will be asked to complete a survey at both time points.

The Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) at the University of Maryland is evaluating the effectiveness of the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Support Services Program (IECMHSS), which provides social-emotional and behavioral consultation services to early childhood teachers across Maryland.

This evaluation is led by Dr. Christy Tirrell-Corbin (Principal Investigator) and Dr. Brenda Jones Harden (Co-Principal Investigator).
