K-12 Dive interviewed Julie J. Park, associate professor of education, for a story about the role extracurricular activities play in the college admissions decisions. Park and her colleagues found that students largely reported top-level leadership roles at equal rates, yet, students from underrepresented backgrounds reported fewer activities than their counterparts.
Park explains: “Groups that have traditionally had some advantage in the process tend to have a broader opportunity to try more activities.”
