The Office of Innovation & Partnerships supports innovative ways of teaching globally. Recent examples include:
- The TESOL Program hosts a four week, professional development program each year for up to thirty secondary English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers from Suzhou, China.
- A winter-term Education Abroad course in El Salvador is based on a COE collaboration with a local NGO, International Partners, building centers for computer and internet access, after-school classes, a lending library, and homework help.
- COE faculty and students have been working in partnership with the psychology department at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to train refugee teachers in over 100 hidden “informal learning centers” located in kitchens, small apartments and basements.
In addition, each year the College of Education hosts visiting delegations from other countries who are interested in various aspects of the educational landscape both in the PK-12 and Higher Ed spheres. Recent delegations have included teams from China, Japan, Oman, South Korea and the Fulbright Distinguished Teachers from across the globe.
