The Art Education program offers intensive coursework and applied learning to fully prepare future art educators for today’s diverse schools. Students receive a solid foundation in liberal arts, specialized skills in studio arts, art history and educational best practices. The program emphasizes critical thinking, authentic artmaking, culturally responsive teaching practices, and integration of real-world experiences into the art classroom. The program leads to teacher licensure and a double major in art education and studio art.

Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education (EC/ECSE) is a comprehensive teacher education program designed for individuals passionate about teaching young children with or without disabilities. Sponsored by the Departments of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education (CHSE), and Human Development and Quantitative Methodology (HDQM), this evidence-based program integrates research on child development, learning, pedagogy, and disabilities to prepare educators for diverse cultural and socioeconomic contexts. The program leads to teacher licensure.

The Elementary Education, Bachelor of Science program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to excel at teaching in the 21st century. Through a comprehensive curriculum, students develop expertise in various subjects crucial for elementary education, including language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Hands-on experience through placements in local elementary schools allows students to apply classroom learning in real-world teaching contexts under the guidance of experienced mentor teachers. This program leads to teacher licensure.

The Elementary/Middle Special Education Bachelor of Science program is geared toward providing tailored support and opportunities for children with diverse learning needs, ensuring that every child has access to an equitable and quality education. The program has been designed for educators who are committed to nurturing the potential of those students, to maintaining high expectations for all learners, and to partnering with families for success. With a focus on evidence-based practices, intervention and collaboration, graduates emerge prepared to make a significant impact in today’s classrooms, advocating for the success and well-being of all students. This program leads to teacher licensure. Certification follows one of two tracks, with an emphasis on either inclusive general education settings, or special education service delivery: - Track 1: Special Education Certification: Mild to Moderate Disabilities Certification (Grades 1-8) and Severe Disability Endorsement (Birth-21) - Track 2: Elementary General and Special Education Certification: Elementary Education Certification (Grades 1-6) and Mild to Moderate Disabilities Certification (Grades 1-8)

The Human Development (HD) Bachelor of Science is designed to support student learning about the mechanisms of growth and change across the lifespan. With areas of focus in developmental science, educational psychology and statistical methodology, HD majors will explore the biological, social, emotional, and cognitive processes of learning and development from conception to old age in diverse social and cultural contexts. With a focus on academic rigor, practical experience, and professional development, our Middle School Education - Mathematics and Science Concentration, Bachelor of Science program empowers students to become effective and inspiring educators in the critical areas of mathematics and science. This program leads to a teacher certification and dual certification in mathematics and science grades 4-9. The Secondary Education, Mathematics Concentration program is part of Terrapin Teachers, an innovative undergraduate STEM education certification pathway. It addresses the critical need for math educators in grades 7-12. Math educators play a pivotal role in shaping students' critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities. Through this program, you'll study mathematics and gain the necessary skills to teach math effectively. This program leads to teacher certification eligibility as a secondary mathematics major.
