Corbin Campbell (PhD, 2012) is an assistant professor of higher and postsecondary education at Columbia University. Her research focuses on the institutional environments and organizational contexts that facilitate student learning and faculty professional growth. She has two current research projects. The first investigates the organizational contexts that facilitate faculty sense of agency in their careers as well as the outcomes of faculty agency for institutions. Her second project explores the use of innovative methods to measure student learning across institutions.
Justin van Fleet (Ph.D., 2011) is the Chief of Staff for Rt. Honorable Gordon Brown in his role as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Global Education. van Fleet is also a nonresident fellow at the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution where his research focuses on corporate social investments and financing for global education. van Fleet graduated with a Ph.D. in international education policy and holds a Master degree from Harvard University in the same field. His dissertation mapped the magnitude, focus and motivations of the U.S. corporate sector’s philanthropic investment in education in developing countries. van Fleet has served as Deputy Chair for Education at the Clinton Global Initiative under Gene Sperling and as Interim Associate Director of the Center for Universal Education at the Council on Foreign Relations. van Fleet has consulted for various global education organizations, including: Clinton Global Initiative University, MasterCard Foundation, Jolie-Pitt Foundation, Teach For America, U.S. Global Campaign for Education, and the University of Pretoria in South Africa. van Fleet has dozens of publications and conference presentations on philanthropy, public-private partnerships, global citizenship, and education in developing countries. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Creative Minds International Public Charter School and the Advisory Board of the Global Business Coalition for Education.
Dr. Thomas C. Segar (PhD, 2011) is a graduate of the College Student Personnel Administration. He currently serves as the Vice President for Students at Shepherd University. He is also a faculty member in the Shepherd University College Student Development and Administration graduate program. He teaches courses on the higher education student, student leadership development, and management and leadership in student affairs. He has previously held positions as a college administrator in the areas of residence life, multicultural student affairs, and disability support services.
Toyia K. Younger (PhD, 2009) serves as assistant provost at Towson University. She previously served as the Director of Student Affairs in the Office of Academic Affairs with the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities in Washington, D.C. Dr. Younger has also worked as the Director of Student Life at Montgomery College. Her areas of research interest include access and student success with emphasis on community college transfer students, students from low-income families, and underrepresented minority groups.
Michelle Asha Cooper (Ph.D., 2006) is president of the Institute for Higher Education Policy (IHEP) and is responsible for developing new ideas and strategic approaches that help low-income, minority, and other historically underserved student populations gain access to and achieve success in postsecondary education. Cooper has held various leadership positions at the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance at the U.S. Department of Education, Association of American Colleges and Universities, Council for Independent Colleges, and King’s College. In March 2012, Cooper was selected as a “Game Changer” by Politic365, which recognized her among a distinguished group of bi-partisan, multicultural leaders from across the country.
Ana Maia (M.Ed, 2012) graduated from the College Student Personnel program with a concentration in Global Leadership Development. She is currently the Assistant Director for Leadership and Organization Development at Stetson University and is currently working on launching Stetson's first Global Leadership Program.
Bjorn H. Nordveit (Ph.D., 2005) is a graduate of the International Education Policy program and recently accepted a position as associate professor at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Bjorn’s research is centered on development discourse and aid effectiveness, south-south cooperation and China-Africa relations, as well as on child labor and education in adversity. His book Constructing Development: Civil Society and Literacy in a Time of Globalization was published in 2009 by Springer. A new book, Schools as Protection: Re-imagining Education in Contexts of Adversity will appear soon. (Springer). Bjorn has prior experience working for the World Bank in Africa (6 years) and has also worked for UNESCO in Laos for 5 years.
