The Master’s of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Middle School Mathematics is offered by the University of Maryland College of Education in partnership with Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). Program candidates are prepared to become highly qualified middle school mathematics teachers, fulfilling the mathematics education needs of students in urban settings. A 3-year master’s program, candidates are required to complete 30 credits of coursework consisting of: • 3 mathematics courses • 3 mathematics education courses • 3 integrated mathematics and mathematics education courses • 1 course in action research. The program also includes school-based components, including tasks for teachers to visit each other’s classrooms, inquiry projects, and more. All courses are offered at the University of Maryland Shady Grove campus located in Rockville, Md. WHO SHOULD APPLY This program is appropriate for current middle school math teachers with elementary certification, or for teachers who wish to teach mathematics at the middle school level. WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT? • Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with emphasis in Middle School Mathematics • Possibility to apply for an add-on endorsement to your elementary certification from MSDE • University fees at a reduced rate • MCPS full-time teachers are eligible for 50% tuition reimbursement Information Sessions Currently not available. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS An undergraduate 3.0 GPA is required for full admission. If you have a GPA between 2.8 and 2.99, you might qualify for provisional admission.
