As a result, advanced professional practice professions must be responsive to the new challenges and demands of the 21st Century.

The Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education (CHSE) at the University of Maryland is uniquely positioned to produce new knowledge, provide advanced graduate and undergraduate training, and fulfill the land grant service mission of a public institution of higher education.

CHSE represents three outstanding areas of concentration, all with exceptional rankings in U.S. News and World Report: Counseling and Personnel Services (ranked #1 for 15 years in a row), Higher Education (ranked #11 in 2014), and Special Education (ranked #11 in 2015).
