COLLEGE PARK, MD (January, 2012) As Muslim populations continue to grow nationally and locally, and as the daily news increasingly covers issues related to Islamic countries, teachers have a genuine and pressing need to learn more about this religion and how to effectively teacher about Islamic culture to their students.
Join colleagues from around the state at a special two–day seminar entitled “Teaching About Islam: Pedagogical Resources and Perspectives.” Sponsored by the Seminars for Teachers program and the Office of International Initiatives in the College of Education, this seminar will provide teachers with the tools needed to raise awareness about the religion and culture to help students connect more closely to Muslim peers and better understand world–wide news events.
This seminar is offered in collaboration with the Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim Christian Understanding at Georgetown University.
