COLLEGE PARK, MD (February, 2013) The College of Education’s new Masters in Teacher Leadership with a focus in Arts Integration works with already certified teachers in further developing their scholarly, artistic and leadership capabilities through research and coursework. It is designed to meet the professional development needs of arts and classroom teachers, by developing the pedagogical knowledge needed to teach the core curriculum to all learners through the arts.
Drawing upon course work, arts experiences, current research and classroom practice, this program shapes teachers understanding and positively impact their teaching, student learning, and the school systems’ teaching initiatives, while preparing teachers to become Arts Integration Leaders in their school community.
This professional development opportunity, sponsored through a grant for Improving Teacher Quality through the Maryland Higher Education Commission, has been developed as a partnership between UMD and Prince Georges County Public Schools.
