CoE Graduate Research Conference set for May 1, 2009

Keynote speaker: Michelle Rhee, Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools

COLLEGE PARK, MD (March 2009) - Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools Michelle Rhee will be one of the major highlights on May 1 at the College of Education's 2009 Graduate Research Conference.

Rhee will deliver the keynote address at the annual showcase of graduate students' research from across the college. This year's presentations will focus on the application of research in the classroom, in accordance with the conference theme–Linking Education Theory and Practice: Building a Collaborative Research Community. Open to the public, registration onsite begins at 8:15 a.m. in the Charles Carroll Room (2203), Stamp Student Union. Rhee is scheduled to speak at noon (persons planning to attend the keynote are asked to be seated by 11:45 a.m.; pre-registrants are guaranteed priority seating). The day concludes with a town hall discussion beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Organized by the Graduate Education Committee in collaboration with the Office of the Dean, the Graduate Research Conference provides a platform underscoring the high quality of research being conducted at the graduate level. The event also serves to cultivate a culture of interdisciplinary dialog, collaboration, and research within the college.

"I think this will be an exciting day," said Margaret McLaughlin, Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education. "We will have a variety of graduate research showcased and students will also have an opportunity to discuss their work with their peers."
