COE Faculty Member Selected for USM Board of Regents Award

COLLEGE PARK, MD (March, 2012) –For the second consecutive year, the Board of Regents of the University of Maryland System has selected a College of Education faculty member to receive one of the prestigious Faculty Awards.

Dr. Patricia Alexander, the Jean Mullan Professor of Literacy in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology will receive the 2012 Faculty Award for Mentoring. Dr. Alexander, director of the Disciplined Reading and Learning Research Lab, studies literacy, learning and reading comprehension as well as students' motivation to learn.

The Regent's Faculty Awards are the highest honor the Board bestows to publicly recognize distinguished performance and faculty achievements. Honorees in the mentoring category excel at fostering student development and attainment.

The awardees are selected by the Council of University System Faculty and submitted to the Board of Regents for approval.

In 2011, Dr. Susan Komives of the Department of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education received the Regent's Faculty Teaching Award
