College of Education Shows Its Mettle in 2017 U.S. News Rankings

COLLEGE PARK, MD (March, 2016) – In the new rankings released this week by U.S. News & World Report, the College of Education has yet again shown its mettle. Keeping its spot at 26th overall among the nation’s graduate schools of education, the College pulled ahead in two vital programs: Curriculum and Instruction (#14) and Educational Psychology (#4).

Other highly ranked areas include Higher Education Administration (#10), Secondary Teacher Education (#14), and Special Education (#13).

The College remains the home of the nation’s very best counseling program, a distinction it now holds for the seventeenth consecutive year – and which eclipses any other graduate program at the University of Maryland.

“Our acclaim is a by-product of our in-depth work with Maryland schools and communities, our faculty's commitment to this work and to helping each other do it, and all the encouragement and help we receive from our friends and alumni,” said Dean Donna Wiseman.

Education Policy, where the College ranked #16 last year, was not scored this year. And again, U.S. News did not rank elementary education programs, where the College also previously held the #16 spot in 2015.
