COLLEGE PARK, MD (March, 2016) Dr. Donna L. Wiseman will be one of three deans of education speaking in a panel presentation, entitled Teacher Preparation: Where We Are and Where We Need to Be, as part of the Teaching & Learning 2016 conference taking place at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C., on March 11 - 12, 2016. The conference is sponsored by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
For this panel discussion on the first day of the conference, Dean Wiseman will join Dr. Renée Middleton, Dean of Ohio University's Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education and Human Services, and Dr. Mark Ginsberg, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at George Mason University, to speak about plans being drawn up to advance education degrees at their respective universities.
The panelists will take stock of the many challenges that schools of education face today – the emergent privatization of public education, integrating new standards into curriculum, the diversity of student bodies, the impact of technology, public scrutiny, and a frequent narrative suggesting that current preparation programs are antiquated. In answer to these challenges, the deans will give their views on policy and curricular changes that have been embraced to move teacher preparation programs swiftly into the 21st century.
The panel will be moderated by Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond, the president and CEO of the Learning Policy Institute and the Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education Emeritus at Stanford University.
Speakers and panelists at Teaching & Learning 2016 come from across the spectrum of education – from pre-K to college – and include deans, superintendents, teachers, professors, and policymakers.
