COE Faculty Member selected for UM System Board of Regents Award

COLLEGE PARK, MD (April, 2011) – Susan R. Komives, Ed.D, a College of Education professor in Counseling and Personnel Services, was selected as a recipient of the 2011 University of Maryland System (USM) Board of Regents’ Faculty Award for Teaching.

The award is the highest honor the Board bestows to publicly recognize distinguished performance and faculty achievements. The awardees are selected by the Council of University System Faculty and submitted to the Board of Regents for approval. Each recipient will receive a plaque and monetary award.

The nominees in the teaching category demonstrated accomplishments in areas such as course development and pedagogy, faculty development, mentorship of faculty, direction of student research projects, and leadership in teaching improvement. The award recipient will have succeeded in promoting measurable increases in student learning.

Each year, up to fifteen awards in five categories- collaboration, mentoring, public service, scholarship/research/creative activity, and teaching are presented.

The Board of Regents will honor Dr. Komives accomplishments at a public session of the Friday, April 15, 2011 Board Meeting at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown.
