Rachel Bayer ’04, M.Ed. ’26, is among the many former federal workers in Maryland navigating career transitions following actions to reduce the federal workforce. After leaving her position with the U.S. Forest Service, Bayer found a new path in the classroom, working with second grade students.
In an interview with Capital News Service, Bayer, who has a background in education and public service, said teaching offered a meaningful way to continue serving others: “Teaching is service. It’s just a different type of service.”
As a recent graduate of the College of Education’s Curriculum and Instruction—with Certification (MCERT), Master of Education (M.Ed.) program, Bayer is now helping young learners make connections through hands-on lessons while beginning a new chapter in her career.
