Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention Hosts Summer Institute

COLLEGE PARK, MD (June, 2016) – The newly formed Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) will host its first Summer Institute at the University of Maryland on June 27 - 29, 2016.

Developed in partnership with Prince George’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) and underwritten by the Bainum Family Fund, the 2016 Summer Institute for Early Childhood Special Educators will bring together PGCPS educators and experts from the University of Maryland, the Maryland State Department of Education, National Geographic, and the Smithsonian Institution.

The attendees – forty-five early childhood special and general educators from Prince George’s County – were selected based on demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to best practices. Held at H. Winship Wheatley Early Childhood Center in Capitol Heights, the Summer Institute will focus on literacy, mathematics, special education strategies, and best practices for early childhood educators.

The Center for Early Childhood Education and Intervention (CECEI) is a collaborative initiative between the Department of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education (CHSE) and the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology (HDQM) within the College of Education. CECEI’s mission is to conduct high quality research on early childhood education and early intervention programs in order to inform state and federal policy, to translate research into scalable education programs and best practices, to build capacity in schools and communities, and to promote family engagement in their children’s education.
