Tenure/Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Special Education

COLLEGE PARK, MD (July, 2013) – The Special Education Program in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education at the University of Maryland is seeking applications for a tenure/tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to begin August 2014.

The Department offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in three broad areas: (a) counseling psychology, school psychology, and counselor education; (b) higher education, student affairs, and international education policy; and (c) special education. The Department’s programs have consistently received high national rankings. The Special Education program, in particular, has a long history of excellence in the field. The Program is searching for an energetic and innovative individual to help shape its vision for the future of undergraduate and graduate training in the field of special education. The ideal candidate has an established record of research and scholarly productivity, a commitment to teaching and mentoring students, and a demonstrated track record in obtaining external funding. Preference will be given to candidates whose teaching and research focuses on evidence based intervention for elementary age students with high incidence disabilities.

Qualifications for the position:

  • Earned doctorate in special education or related field;
  • Record of publications and external funding commensurate with appointment rank;
  • Interest and skill in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students;
  • National recognition as a leader in individual’s area of expertise; and
  • Ability to work collaboratively with academic colleagues and practitioners.
