Lent Receives National Career Development Association's Highest Honor

COLLEGE PARK, MD (July, 2015) – This June, the National Career Development Association (NDCA) presented Professor Robert W. Lent of the Department of Counseling, Higher Education and Special Education with its 2015 Eminent Career Award.

Dr. Lent has published extensively on applications of social cognitive theory to academic and career behavior. The NDCA bestowed him with the Eminent Career Award in recognition of his major contributions to the theory, research, and practice of career development and counseling. In recent years, he received the John L. Holland Award for Outstanding Achievement in Career and Personality Research (Counseling Psychology, APA Division 17) and the Distinguished Achievement Award from the Society for Vocational Psychology. And just last year, he was awarded the Leona Tyler Award for Lifetime Achievement in Counseling Psychology.

The Eminent Career Award is NDCA’s highest honor. To qualify for the award, a nominee must have excelled in theory, practice, leadership, and/or scholarship. Past winners include Donald Super, Leona Tyler, John Holland, and John Krumboltz.

Dr. Robert W. Lent is a professor in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education. He is co-editor, with S.D. Brown, of the Handbook of Counseling Psychology (4th ed., Wiley, 2008) and Career Development and Counseling: Putting Theory and Research to Work (2nd ed., Wiley, 2013). He is associate editor of the Journal of Counseling Psychology and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Vocational Behavior. He earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from The Ohio State University.
