HDQM Grad Student Named an International Teaching Fellow

COLLEGE PARK, MD (October, 2014) – HDQM graduate student Xiaying "James" Zheng has been selected as an International Teaching Fellow. Sponsored by the Graduate School and the Center for Teaching Excellence, the International Teaching Fellows program supports graduate teaching assistants in their professionalization as university teachers and future faculty. The year-long program pairs novice international teachers with a senior international graduate student mentor.

Fellows dedicate approximately twenty hours per semester to the program and receive a $500 stipend. They meet regularly with mentors and as a community to discuss undergraduate teaching and learning. They are also observed in the classroom at least twice during the academic year in order to provide them with feedback, and at the conclusion of the year they submit a teaching portfolio for review.
