Francesca Henderson, a second-year doctoral student in the Center for Mathematics Education, Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, was awarded an American Educator Panels Scholarship, from Rand Corporation. Her project analyzes the role of principals' STEM backgrounds in high school students' STEM achievement. This project will do a statistical analysis using one of the largest, high-quality data sets of U.S. school leaders and teachers. This quantitative analysis will be complemented with one-on-one interviews with high school principals around the United States.
