Diverse: Issues in Higher Education reported on the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation’s webinar, “Championing Inclusion: The Impact of DEI Programs in Higher Education." Dean Kimberly Griffin served on the panel, joining higher education experts from across the country to discuss the significance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in U.S. colleges and universities.
Panelists addressed the challenges these programs face amid a contentious political climate and emphasized their essential role in fostering equitable educational environments. Griffin highlighted the tangible consequences of anti-DEI legislation and emphasized the need for a united approach to counter anti-DEI efforts. She urged institutions to prioritize collaboration over individual interests, stating, “I think there is room for us to work together in a more coordinated way, and for institutions not to think of themselves and their own interests. We all have our own interests. We all have our own context. But to what extent can we come together and speak with a more unified voice to our audience?”
