Sophia Rodriguez Announced as Finalist for the William T. Grant Scholars Program
Assistant Professor Sophia Rodriguez has been named a finalist for the William T. Grant Scholars Program Class 2027
The William T. Grant Scholars Program grants $350,000 over five years to selected participants to help fund research projects and support early career development. If selected, Rodriguez will use the funding to support a mixed-methods study of Maryland school districts and their welcoming of immigrant students. She plans to research decision-makers in policy who build learning structures for immigrated students. Rodriguez is still in the early stages of her career but understands it is a momentous achievement.
"It is humbling getting recognized as someone who has the potential to be an accomplished future researcher," said Rodriguez.
There are eleven finalists chosen among hundreds of research applications and between 4-6 finalists receive the funding. Rodriguez will be interviewed this upcoming February and receive a decision from the foundation in March. Regardless of the outcome, she is proud to be recognized for her work and passion for helping children facing inequality in school.
"Being named a finalist is a highlight accomplishment in the early stages of my career," said Rodriguez.
Rodriguez is an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership at the University of Maryland. She received her Ph.D. from Loyola University Chicago, and she hopes to continue her research to dispose of inequality in education.
