Drs. Sharon Fries-Britt and Bridget Turner Kelly Awarded Grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Drs. Sharon Fries-Britt and Bridget Turner Kelly were awarded a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for their project Post-Secondary System Opportunities – Evidence & Strategic Analysis. 

The project will examine postsecondary attainment rates and focus on closing the race and income equity gaps in degree completion and post-college outcomes.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation works to help all people lead healthy, productive lives. The foundation focuses on gender equality, global development, global health, education, and other areas needing improvement. 

Dr. Fries-Britt is a Professor at the University of Maryland, College Park in the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education. Dr. Fries-Britt is a University of Maryland Distinguished Scholar-Teacher. Her research examines the experiences of high achieving Blacks in higher education, underrepresented minorities in STEM fields, and issues of race, equity, and diversity. 

Dr. Kelly is an Associate Professor in the Higher Education, Student Affairs, and International Education Policy Program. Dr. Kelly is also Diversity Officer and Chair of the Council on Racial Equity and Justice in the College of Education at the University of Maryland.
