COLLEGE PARK, MD (August, 2016) It has been another busy summer, here in Educational Technology Services. This was our first summer in our new offices (suite 0223), and this past spring we had our first open house in many years. Over the past three months we: launched multiple new center and lab web sites, closed 180 support tickets, conducted monthly brown-bag and individual faculty trainings (especially on the newly instituted email and calendar system: Google Apps for Education), hired additional student workers to replace those leaving us this fall, restocked equipment at our circulation desk, and restarted the Obsolete Equipment Reimbursement Program (OERP), which helps subsidize and standardize department computer purchases. We have also been assisting the Office of Advancement and Communications in weekly meetings with our web vendor planning for a new Drupal-based website, with an anticipated launch in early 2017. Below are some additional highlights, which might be of interest to College of Education faculty, staff, and students..
Computer Lab
Our computer lab had its fall semester software refresh. We are in our second year of our upgraded pay4print, which now uses a release station, providing additional security for student print jobs. The computer lab (room 0230 Benjamin) is available for faculty reservation during our open hours and as an open student lab when not reserved. Computer lab specs can be found at: http://education.umd.edu/ETS/computerLab/
Technology Desk
The ETS Technology Desk (0234 Benjamin) handles first-tier support for our technology classrooms, the check-out and return of equipment, and reservations for equipment and the computer lab. Its fall semester hours, beginning August 29, can be found at: http://www.education.umd.edu/ETS/hours.html.
Workshops and Brown-bags
ETS continues to offer monthly brown-bags on topics of interest and training by request for items such as Canvas (the campus LMS), Google Apps for Education (GAfE) and SMARTBoards. A complete list of upcoming offerings can be found at: http://www.education.umd.edu/ETS/workshops/
