Assistant Professor Rachel Romeo and undergraduate Research Assistant Abria Simmons joined WBAL-TV for a conversation about their innovative effort to increase the participation of Black children in child development studies conducted at the Language, Experience, and Development (LEAD) Lab.
Simmons explains the trial-and-error process of experimenting with different braiding techniques on afro-textured hair and the success that has come as a result.
“This is something that people are really interested in and, since then, we’ve gotten upwards of 10 requests from individual researchers across the country asking for guidance,” says Romeo.
