DC News Now aired the College of Education’s new effort to recognize alumni teachers during Teacher Appreciation Week.

The segment captured the moment Dean Kimberly Griffin and College of Education staff and faculty surprised Alexis Cutler ’16, a second grade teacher at Tyler Heights Elementary School, and Pedro Gonzalez ’06, a Spanish teacher at Samuel Ogle Middle School, with a $1,000 and gift basket with items from UMD-alumni owned businesses.

“The day-to-day gets tough,” explains Cutler, second grade teacher at Tyler Heights Elementary School, “but when things like this happen, it just [reaffirms] the passion and how we can help grow [students] into community partners that we’re proud of.”
