National History Day Contest

National History Day® (NHD) is a nonprofit education organization based in College Park, Maryland. NHD offers year-long academic programs that engage over half a million middle-and high-school students worldwide annually in conducting original research projects on historical topics of interest. Students enter these projects at the local and affiliate levels, with top students advancing to the National Contest at the University of Maryland in June.

Each June, nearly 3,000 students, their families, and teachers gather at UMD, for the week-long National Contest. They come from all fifty United States, the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, and international schools in China, Korea, and elsewhere (NHD International). We need friendly faces to help them throughout the contest week!

Volunteers are needed for two volunteer opportunities.

Student/Teacher Check-In Volunteer

Needed: Sunday, June 14, 2026

Building Monitor Volunteer

Needed: Monday, June 15 and/or Tuesday, June 16, 2026
