Inside Higher Ed highlights a series of emerging bright spots in higher education, including (some) gains in enrolling low-income students at highly selective institutions. Professor Julie J. Park notes that economic diversity is “ticking up … and that’s a good thing” but cautions against attributing the progress solely to the end of affirmative action in admissions. She writes that changes in Pell Grant eligibility and years of intentional instuitional efforts to expand socioeconomic access have played a role in the shift.
