Following the Supreme Court's ruling on race-conscious admissions, a spotlight has turned towards the practice of legacy admissions, a practice that benefits applicants with family ties to an alumni. These applicants are often overwhelmingly white and are more likely to be admitted to elite universities than non-legacy students.
When asked about the focus on legacy admissions, Associate Professor Julie Park said, "Legacy preferences have become an easy target in the wake of a Supreme Court decision that hinged on questions of merit in the college application process.”
