About William F. Tate IV Ph.D. ’91
William F. Tate IV Ph.D. ’91 serves as president of Louisiana State University. He holds faculty appointments in sociology (primary), psychiatry and behavioral medicine (clinical), epidemiology (secondary), and population and public health (secondary) at the Baton Rouge campus, LSU Health Sciences Center in Shreveport, LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, and Pennington Biomedical Research Center, respectively. He has held endowed professorships at Texas Christian University, Washington University in St. Louis, and the University of South Carolina.
Tate is the recipient of numerous research recognitions including elections to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, National Academy of Education, and Fellow status in the American Educational Research Association (AERA). He was named a top ten sociologist by the RHSU Edu-Scholar Public Influence Report and is a Patricia Roberts Harris Fellow, and was awarded an Anna Julia Cooper Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in public and social policy at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and holds a Ph.D. in mathematics education with a cognate in human development from the University of Maryland, a MPE (Masters in Psychiatric Epidemiology) from the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, and a B.S. in economics from Northern Illinois University.
