Equity-Centered Trauma-Informed Education: A Book Study In Practice, Pedagogy, and Policy
The College of Education Alumni Network Board is pleased to announce an exciting professional learning opportunity that focuses on how to create equity-centered, trauma-informed learning environments for all alumni who are working in education.
In the wake of a global pandemic paired with a socio-political climate filled with increasing racial and cultural bias, a focus on prioritizing mental health and wellness has been at the forefront of our current educational landscape. Now more than ever, school districts and institutions of higher learning have had to grapple with how to support the ever increasing well-being needs of their students, staff, and community. Trauma-informed practices that not only elevate the need to address trauma, but also center on equity and social justice are needed in order to create learning environments where all students thrive.
In this three-part series, participants will engage in a book study of Alex Shevrin Venet’s, Equity-Centered Trauma-Informed Education. In each session, participants will have the opportunity to engage in whole-group learning associated with the assigned chapter readings before transitioning to job-alike breakout rooms for in-depth discussions about implications for their work. Facilitators will lead the group through a variety of community building and discussion protocols that serve to provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on their current mindsets, pedagogical practices, and policies. At the end of this series, participants will leave with the knowledge and skills necessary to interrogate their current practices and put a trauma-informed lens on their approaches to teaching and learning, that is rooted in anti-bias and anti-racism.
Your registration includes three sessions, which are held from 7:00-8:00 pm ET via Zoom:
Wednesday, November 9th (have the instruction plus chapters 1-4 read prior to attending)
Wednesday, January 11th (have chapters 5-8 read prior to attending)
Wednesday, March 1st (have chapters 9-13 read prior to attending)
