Prof. Riitta-Liisa Korkeamäki (Ph.D., University of Oulu, Finland, in 1996) studied as a Fulbright scholar at the University of Maryland as a doctoral student 1989-1990. A former teacher and teacher training school mentor, she is a professor at the University of Oulu where she served as Head of the Department of Education and Teacher Education (2003-2009) and as Dean of the Faculty of Education (2010 -2016). Her research focuses on teaching and learning in early childhood and school settings. Recently, her research has dealt with new literacies in national projects such as Future School First and Second Wave and the Joy of Reading program.
