Numerical Cognition | Cognitive Scaffolding | Father Involvement | Home Learning Environment

Miaofan is a fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland working with Dr. Natasha Cabrera. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Cognitive Science from Rutgers University. Her research focuses on children’s development of numerical cognition and on how mothers’ and fathers’ contributions to the home learning environment jointly and uniquely relate to individual differences in early math learning. Her work has examined the role of gender stereotypes in number estimation, and she is also interested in investigating the neural mechanisms underlying numerical cognition.
