Debra A. Neubert is Professor, Special Education Program, Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education, University of Maryland. Dr. Neubert's expertise is in the field of Secondary Special Education and Transition Services for youth and young adults with disabilities. She has been involved in a number of grant-supported projects focused on personnel preparation for transition specialists and secondary special educators and on outreach activities for schools systems implementing age appropriate programs for students with significant disabilities (ages 18-21) on college campuses. Other research and teaching interests center on transition assessment, pre-college experiences for youth with disabilities, and postsecondary supports and technology integration for students with diverse abilities.
Dr. Neubert has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Secondary Special Education and Transition Methods since 1986. She was selected as the ADVANCE Professor for the College of Education in 2011-2012 to serve as a mentor to junior women faculty in the promotion and tenure process. She developed a course on Universal Design for Learning and technology integration for special education teacher candidates in 2011. Before joining the Special Education Department she was a Maryland Vocational Evaluator in St. Mary's County Public Schools, a Project Coordinator for in-service activities for special and career/technology teachers, and a Project Director for Transition Research at the George Washington University.
