Recent survey findings on free expression on campus reveal that students are mostly hesitant to share their views on controversial topics because they’re concerned with how they’ll be perceived by their peers.
The results comport with decades of research on young-adult development, explains Associate Professor Julie J. Park. “I didn’t see this overriding impression that students seem closed off to each other, to new ideas, to even disagreeing outwardly.”
