College of Education Ranked Among Top 25 by U.S. News & World Report

Department of Counseling and Personnel Services holds decade-long record as number one in the nation

COLLEGE PARK, MD (April 2009) – For the tenth consecutive year, the College of Education has maintained its ranking as one of the Top 25 schools of education in the country. The College was rated 24th, according to the U.S. News & World Report survey released on April 23, 2009. In addition, all of its ranked programs and departments list in the Top 20 of their categories, with the Counseling and Personnel Services department continuing its record as number one in the country.

"We are proud to count ourselves as one of the best colleges of education in the nation," said Dean Donna Wiseman. "Our move up in the rankings is evidence of the strength and dedication of our faculty and staff, the achievements of our students, and the high regard of our peers."

The following college departments and programs are ranked among the Top 20 in the nation:

  • Counseling and Personnel Services department (1st)
  • Educational Psychology (4th)
  • Rehabilitation Counseling program (9th–last ranked in 2007 in the Health category)
  • Special Education department (11th)
  • Elementary Education (12th)
  • Higher Education Administration (12th)
  • Educational Policy (13th)
  • Administration/Supervision (15th)
  • Secondary Education (15th)
  • Curriculum and Instruction department (18th)

The 2010 rankings are released in 2009 as part of U.S. News magazine's annual guide of 'America's Best Graduate Schools', currently available at bookstores. U.S. News also distributes the results of its rankings and explains the survey methodology on its web site: www.usnews.com
