Keynote speaker: John Q. Easton, Director of the Institute for Education Sciences
COLLEGE PARK, MD (April 2010) - The intellectual talent of graduate students from across various education-related fields will be on display Monday, April 26, at the Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center for the College of Education's 2010 Graduate Student Research Conference.
Organized by the College's Graduate Education Committee, in collaboration with the Office of the Dean, the conference cultivates a culture of interdisciplinary dialog and collaboration, while providing a platform that emphasizes the high quality of research being conducted at the graduate level. This year's event is guided by the theme, Changing Educational Landscapes: Vision, Process, Policy and Praxis.
"I think this will be an exciting day," said Margaret McLaughlin, Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education. "We will have a variety of graduate research showcased and students will also have an opportunity to discuss their work with their peers."
An open event for the public, conference sessions begin at 9 a.m. Among the day's highlights will be the keynote speech at noon by John Q. Easton, President Obama's nominee for director of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) -- the research arm of the U.S. Department of Education. IES encompasses the National Center for Education Statistics, the National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance, the National Center for Education Research, and the National Center for Special Education Research.
The 2010 Graduate Student Research Conference is free, but pre-registration is encouraged to guarantee priority seating for the keynote address. To pre-register and/or to learn more, visit the conference web site at: www.education.umd.edu/gradresconf/.
