COLLEGE PARK, MD (May, 2017) – Stephanie Hall, a University of Maryland College of Education doctoral student, recently participated in the David L. Clark National Graduate Student Research Seminar in Educational Administration & Policy in San Antonio, Texas.
The seminar, held April 26 and 27, brought together doctoral students and faculty from research institutions from around the country, allowing students to share their dissertation proposals and get feedback from peers and faculty. The event, which took place prior to the 2017 American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting, also allowed students to connect with potential faculty mentors as they prepare for the academic job market. AERA and the University Council of Educational Administration sponsored the event.
Nominations for student presenters take place in the preceding fall semester, and this year, only about half were selected to participate in the seminar. The Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership’s Dr. Betty Malen and Dr. Bob Croninger coordinated the nomination process.
“I found this to be very valuable, because up to this point, I had not yet presented my dissertation proposal, and the seminar gave me a lot of feedback to perfect it before presenting it to my committee,” Hall said. “It was also beneficial to meet other PhD students and faculty from other institutions to form a bigger academic and professional network for future research collaborations and for guidance in entering the academic profession.”
Hall is a doctoral candidate in the international education policy program within the Department of Counseling, Higher Education, and Special Education. For her dissertation research, Hall will conduct an analysis of teacher education policy in Brazil. CHSE Professor Dr. Steve Klees serves as Hall’s advisor.
