ETS September 2026 Brown bag Discussion/Demonstration
Beyond Head Nods—Check Student Understanding with Canvas

Do students really understand the lecture, or are they simply following along?

Join Educational Technology Services (ETS)  for a Brown Bag Demonstration/Discussion on practical ways to use Canvas to check student understanding during class. Learn how brief Canvas Assignments and Quizzes can help students summarize key ideas, demonstrate learning, and stay engaged through the final minutes of a lecture.(Face-to-Face or Virtual)

This session will explore strategies for use in Face-to-Face and Virtual Class Sessions:

  • Participation and attendance strategies
Consider ways to connect in-class Canvas activities to participation credit while keeping the focus on learning and engagement.
  • Timing, due dates, and availability settings
Set due dates and times so activities open during class and are submitted before or shortly after the session ends.Creating quick end-of-class summaries and reflection activities
  • Taking Attendance in Class
Using the Roll Call, Canvas Attendance tool

This workshop/demonstration is open to COE faculty, staff, and graduate assistants.
